Trick or Healthy Treat?

So, if you know anything about us then you're probably aware of how candor we are.Basically, pardon the pun, we don't sugar coat anything here. However, having said that, we are huge proponents of setting people up for success. With Halloween just around the corner, we want to give you some tips that allow you to  enjoy your Halloween but not go crazy:

  1. Be aware of calories - choose the treats that come pre-portioned and avoid high calorie candy like Butterfinger, Reese's and Peanut M&M's...
  2. Wait to buy Halloween candy - without all the candy around you are less likely to give into temptation...
  3. Eat before you trick or treat - going out on an empty stomach will inevitably lead to overindulging so eat a healthy dinner with your kids before hitting the streets...
  4. Stay active - opt for taking the long way home; walking is one of the best ways to burn calories...
  5. Practice portion control - Separate out what you have and decide what candy you will have now and what candy has a long shelf life that you can have later...
  6. Bargain - Make a coupon book and negotiate with your kids. Allow them to trade in a certain amount of treats for a "non-food" item...
  7. Keep it in perspective - Halloween is a childhood tradition and it's only one night!
